About the Programme

  • Growing up as a Christian you may have heard it said regarding the Christian faith: “It’s not what you know, but who you know that matters”. Here's a question: who is this God you are supposed to know? If the message of the Bible is as simple as “Jesus loves me”, why are there 1,189 chapters and almost 800,000 words in it? (By the way, for 1,300 years, the Bible didn’t have chapter divisions.)

    Come and take a mind-blowing journey through God’s amazing story in the Scriptures, learn to find yourself in it, and find it full of relevance even for today - even in Uni!

  • Spiritual Formation connects our theology to our spiritual experience and personal intimacy with God. Are you asking questions such as these: how do I read the Bible? How do I pray? What can devotional time look like in my university life? How do I find spiritual community? How do I discern the will of God for the next step in my journey?

    We explore these questions in IDMCi|uni, and cap it off with a 4 day listening retreat. We trust you will be blessed as you commune with God and with each other.

  • The truth is that Christianity has a bad name in today's university. The truth also is that this state of affairs is not inevitable! Some of the best minds in history – think Isaac Newton, Leonhard Euler, James Clerk Maxwell, C. S. Lewis or Francis Collins today – devoutly believed in God. Even Darwin was convinced of the existence of God as First Cause.

    The question, really, is whether Christians will think deeply and with integrity about what they believe, and interpret the world through the lens of truth! We are convinced that Christian university students have nothing to be ashamed about their faith in Christ. If anything, the Christian worldview answers the big questions of life better than worldly narratives can. Do you dare to believe that?

  • Ever heard of professors in ivory towers? Some people think the Christian faith is an ivory tower, nice in theory but irrelevant to the real world which is messy, complex and ambiguous.

    This is not true! As Christians we are called to pray and work that God's Kingdom and will might be seen on earth as it is in heaven (remember the Lord's prayer). Thus Christianity is not a "pie in the sky when you die" but deeply relevant to this world! This means we must be fully aware of the joys and griefs, triumphs and pains of the world around us. We must learn how our faith is relevant in the marketplace. We must reach out in divine love to the poor and downtrodden; and in divine hope to the broken and lost.

    At IDMCi|uni, we hope to cultivate a heart for the world within you, and provide opportunities to express that heart.

  • Everyone needs a guide in their lives, not least during critical transitions. You might be feeling disoriented and anxious, and that's normal – remember that God is working in you, during this time of change. We are committed to journeying with you. This shared journey is one of the ways God works!

    The mentoring journey is optional. If you would like a mentor, we will try our best to pair you with one who has recently graduated within the same field of work or study that you are interested in. Your mentor will be able to guide you by introducing you to the marketplace, and check-in on your spiritual progress during the 3 months of the program all the way till December (the end of your first semester). We leave any further mentoring arrangements post-IDMCi|uni to the discretion of you and your mentor.

About us

IDMC Institute (IDMCi) started by conducting a one-year programme at Covenant Evangelical Free Church (CEFC) to train disciples for God's kingdom.

IDMCi|uni is our humble effort to help a younger generation go through a discipleship journey at a crucial point in their life journey.

We desire to equip young Christian adults, who are transiting into adult life in the wider world, to make sense of and truly own their Christian faith. Young adulthood can be a very turbulent phase of life! Thus, by God's grace, we hope to help them grow deep roots, that they may be securely anchored to the Rock as they navigate life. We also want to help them grow strong wings so that they might love God, love others and soar for Jesus, doing great exploits for the Kingdom.

  • "I’ve always wanted to but never “had the time”, so I decided to sign up for IDMCi and intentionally set aside the time for God. Through IDMCi|Uni, I grew in my understanding of the Word, learning more about the contexts, the meanings, not just for fun facts but in a way that really deepened my understanding of God’s Word and God. IDMCi|Uni also challenged me to consider what I wanted to see (in my community, in my walk, in my daily life) and be intentional about it. That is something I am really trying to work on as I’m in uni now. And lastly, to commune with Him is a decision. A tough one. But if you seek the Father, you’ll find He is right next to you."
